b Hare + Guu: This show is delightfully, darkly wacky. Hare's young mom is a carefree, cheerful, alcoholic slob, and he's a bit stressed from having to be the adult. Sometimes he thinks his life is pretty bad. Then he meets Guu, and she proceeds to show him that he had no idea what stress is. There is lots of hilarious ranting as Hare tries to keep Guu from eating his friends and family and tries to deal with the consequences of her deadpan shenanigans. Oh, the hyper drama. Some of these voice performances are amazing. : )
b Pumpkin Scissors: A military drama set in a post-war world where a young and idealistic but strong officer and a somewhat motley crew of enlisted men try to stamp out old corruption left over from the war and new corruption springing up in the economic depression it left in its wake. There are a lot of conflicts including military factions, class issues, and information control. The main source of conflict comes from a hulking soldier who was used in experiments during the war and struggles with his abilities as a fearless/brainless killer and his desire to contribute positively to peace time. Another anime based on a light novel series that I really want to read, this one has a semi-decent conclusion for an ongoing series, but mostly it just leaves intriguing threads dangling. There are some very good performances on the English dub.
